Well, duh! I just thought I'd share my journey to enlightenment with you. I have an '81 Standard with about 57K on the odometer that I got in Aug of 2001 - first bike I've had in over 20 years. Well, last Sep. I thought I'd tear into the brakes because the rear rotor was cracked a little bit and the pads were thin. So I replaced the pads with generic ones off eBay, got a used rear rotor that looked real good and straight from my local MC junkyard, put it all together and it lurched like a drunken sailor when I applied the rear brake. To make a long story shorter, between Sep. and Mar. I went through three more junkyard rotors that looked perfect, even had one turned (dumb!), same result. Got one off eBay that had never been on a bike, and that solved it. All the previous rotors were straight, but were too thin. Once I got enough meat down there everything was fine. Everybody had said there was very little tolerance, but I guess I never believed that it could make such a drastic difference. Now I know....

Her is a tip, NEVER buy a rear rotor, always buy a front. Same rotor, unless we are talking about slotted ones then your have to get the same side in front for slots to match. EVERY rear rotor I have seen, 10 at least have been way under sized do to over use. Fronts are always perfect.
