  • Who needs XJ1100 rear master cylinder kits?

Ok, I called my local dealer and they told me Yamaha discontinued the rebuild kit for XJ1100 rear master cylinder. So, you'll only find 'em as NOS. Apparently no ftermarket company wants to make rebuild kits for a one year bike with a funky MC.

I know XS wont work as they have a 1/2" bore as the XJ has a 3/4" bore.

Now the tricky part. All the cups are 3/4" OD but there are ID issues. The front has a 0.325" ID and the rear has a 0.5" ID. I can only find 3/4" OD with a 0.25" ID. However, the front cup can be modified by using a solid cup instead of a U. all you have to do is cut the boss of which is used to push the spring. one problem down.

i can get a company to make me the second U cup (the 0.5" ID) for $7/piece but there is a 50 order min. I'm sure I can get the 0.325" ID ones made for the same price.

So, you'll need to keep your piston, piston retaining clip, circlip, and spring.

I don't know if there are 50 XJ owners here in need of a new rear MC rebuild kit but if you do, let me know. If I can get enough people, I'll order them and resell them. I'm not looking to rip people off. I just need one set for myself so I can get this bike back on the road.

      Hey,

Would that be to UNLINK the linked brake system, and install a regular XS rear MC, used that you can still get rebuild kits for??

I was going to suggest something like that, but didn't get around to posting it yet. I had just posted a reply to another Xsive looking for a rebuild kit for his 81MNS, and they use the same dual/linked rear MC so he's out of luck as well!

OR did you find another cup solution??

i'm just going to get a 0.75" Tilton MC with a remote reservoir and get my buddy to weld a bracket to bolt the cylinder to the bike. therefore, rebuild kits are easily available amd i'm using the same size MC. so, i'll just leave them linked. it's what makes this bike unique.

using the XS MC sounds like an excellent alternative but i don't know about using the smaller cylinder. the 0.5" doesn't displace as much as the 0.75" which i would think resulting in a poorer brake. if people done it before and experienced no changes i might look into it. i know there's an '82 XJ750 down the road for parts and i'll probably yank that system if it's compatible,
