  • float seat & pod ?

Has anyone tapped a set of 80 or 81 carbs to take the old screw in seat?I would like to possibly get rid of the o-ring press-in seats.

Also ,(stupid question but)do you oil pod filters.I did but there were no instructions with them.I just figure you should.

    Thanks in advance. rick

Tarzan - I just put a set of Mikes XS pods on my standard this past week. Mikes says they can be oiled for better filtration, but I just put 'em on dry. I want as much air going through them as I can get.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Why would you want to go to all that trouble?

Powerram - I just put 'em on, so I haven't had to clean 'em yet. Mikes XS states in the description that the filtration material is washable. Here's a link to the page with the pods. They also have the breather filters on this page. They describe their filters as "an improved replica of the most popular brand on the market". I can only assume they are referring to K&N.

I was having problems with flooding.I took carbs off yesterday and pulled all the floats, seats and needles.I was thinking eliminate a possible leak at o-ring for good(moment of severe frustration).Well I had a couple floats a little twisted so I straightened and readjusted them to .92" and it looks like my leaks are fixed,or at least it starts easy now and I rode it around last night a bit and it seemed good.So I will sync carbs today and adjust pilot screws and see how things are.
I guess in all my exitement to get it running when I rebuilt the carbs I didnt check everything thoroughly enough.Imagine that.
I really dont like the design of press-in seats with an oring,it seems your asking for a leak.On ther other hand these bikes are 30 years old and have a lot of good miles on them and with good maintainance the seats hold up well I suppose.I think I will hold off on this for now.
