    1979 XS1100 F Saddlebags

I have a set of Samsonite Luggage Style bags for my 1979 XS1100 F that I would like to get rid of... I need new needle & seats for mine and other misc items to get it right. The bags fit your machine and are in great shape. You can run two bags (one on each side) or just one on the back. I can send pics if you are interested. The bags look just like standard hard Samsonite luggage with a triangular extention on the back. They are lockable (I have the key) and lock to the rack with a tubular key. The rack comes with a short backrest. It's a really nice set but I'm on a shoestring budget and this is my only way to commute to and from work. The bags & rack were over $500 new and apparently are very hard to find. I just need enough to cover a set of carbs or 4 needle & seat sets. A stock seat and rt side tank badge would be nice too. The bags look exactly like luggage save for the triangle piece. They go straight from the bike to your room in a flash. If you are interested please reply on this forum, E-Mail me at johnqpublic@netzero.net or call me at (760) 937-2156
BTW... My bike is Midnight Blue with Gold accents... Also need a new rear tire.

      side bars

Those side bars do protect the bags, I rolled my bike at 50mph last month and all it did was scar the paint a little. the bars took a lot of punishment but they saved the bags and I was able to straighten the bars and reuse them. The fairing was not so lucky it completely disentegrated.

I guess it all depends on how they are hit. Mine resulted in a long vertical crack of the bag on the right side past the front hole, obviously caused or at least aided by the bar pushing in.

I am also looking for saddlebags for my macho maroon 78 xs11 standard. I have the hard bags now, latch on front and rear, but lost a cover this week, so not sure what to do now. Any suggestions?

            cover

When you find another cover, the foward latch can be converted to a hinge setup. Then if you forget to latch the rear latch, the cover isn't going anywhere. Hope you are able to locate one.

wa407mpp, were you able to find another faring? if not, would you happen to still have the faring mount & willing to sell it? I need to either sell my faring or find a faring mount. Thanks. Later 'Dog

I'm new to my 80G, and it has the bags with the single lock like in the picture.
The question I have is....other than for looks, what is the purpose of the chrome frame being bolted to the outside of the bag?

I have a 80g hardbagger with the "factory bags". The chrome framing is extensive and heavy but afford good protection for the bags and the bike. I had my bike knocked over in a parking lot and the framing saved the bags from any damage. They also helped when my daughter was less than precise when she parked her car. Also, the few times I have dropped the bike (don't ask), the framing kept the bike from falling all the way over on its side, making it much easier to pick back up. While I havent tested it, yet, I am sure they also would be effective in some protection in the event of a get off (should I roll or tuck?). Also, I found a very effective way of fixing the broken plastic with fiberglass mat and PVC cement. When I got the bike, one bag had a crack in it, the OEM fairing also was cracked and the PVC/fiberglass mat fix worked very well and is still holding.
                  When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

Roger that, Webb .... kept me from getting pinned (tuck and roll) under the bike as that old codger backed over me and the bike last month
