    does the xs 1100 outrun that kawasaki z1 900 from the 70's what about the ninja 950 of the 80's

  • #2
    The XS1100 outruns the KZ900's and the KZ100's badly like in blowing their doors off. I don't know about the 950 performance.

        A buddy has a bike same year as mine (82) but it's a KZ1100 Spectre. His can't hang with my bike. I don't "Blow his doors off" so to speak, but there's no question.

          Z1000 about 83 hp and I think the 1st one only had 26mm Carbs;
          XS1100 95 hp, 34mm ? Carbs-a bit heavier.
          Ive had a Z1000 and im sure it wasnt as fast as my XS1100.

          Z1A about 235kg;XS = 255 kg, Might come down to gearing??

                I may be wrong but i seem to remember reading when Yamaha 1st decided to build a large 4 cyl bike it had to be faster than the Z1 A 900. The(XS)1.1 part was supposedley a reference to its predicted 1/4 mile time.

                  underated old bike in my opinion

                      Carbs-a bit heavier
                      Actually the XS BS34's weigh about 30% less than the VM26's, 8 lbs 2.2 oz vs. over 13 lbs.

                      My buddies bike is a '77 KZ1000 bored over with the 1045 Wiseco kit. It also has Miki' BS34's, and a 530 sprocket/chain conversion. It is quick, but still can't hang with the XS

                      The KZ1000 J however was much faster and I think faster than the XS.

                        ooops-i meant the bike (XS) was heavier than the Z1.
                        My Z1 had a Wiseco 1075 with std carbs-doubt it was any quicker than XS. Certainly didnt handle any better

                            Wow, they are putting a V4 in the royal star now, huh? That is cool. I rode a 1100 vstar and it was a clumsy dog.

                              The Royal Star has always been a v4, it was Yamaha's first attempt at a big cruiser. To save money they used the motor out of the Venture which they had just dropped from their inventory, but they got stupid and cut the power down to about 40 hp and removed the counterbalancers to make it shake. It would have been a good road bike if they would have left the motor alone. then Honda brought out their new 1800 v-twin and Yamaha followed with the Road Star, and even though they still make an improved version of the Royal Star, the Road Star is the one everyone wants. Usually, just because it is a v twin.
