  • Riding with no tail pipe

My tail pipe seems to have fallen off on the way to work this morning. It's a 4 into 1 and just the actual tail piece is now gone, having come apart down where the center stand is.

I went back for it, but it had already been driven over several times by that point so I'm currently pipeless.

Aside from the rather loud, raunchy noise the bike makes now, can any problems develop from riding with no pipe until I can get a new one (hopefully monday)

    Thanks,
    datter

It is possible to overheat the exhaust valves when there is no back pressure/spent gasses to help cool the valves.

Really? I'd never heard that. Hope the thing doesn't blow up on me at some point.

Burning the exhaust valves would required fairly high ambient temps, extended high speed and/or heavy load riding.

If your rides are short at off highway speeds and it is not too hot out, you should be OK.

The noise will be a bigger problem. It is fun for a while, but everybody will hear you coming and going. You will be able to make the loudest Hardly rider cringe.

I had to ride with an open 4:1 for nearly 100 miles. I did everything I could to keep the noise level and RPM as low as possible, EXCEPT when I passed a Harley!

You'd need to build internals to handle it. And it would be all top end motor. Poor at low rpm.
