  • 4 into 2 spaghetti

Ok, I've found out the exhaust I got for the bike is supposedly a really rare find- the jardine 4 into 2 "spaghetti" exhaust. So, i'm having an issue with weather or not i'd like to keep them, or sell them. I've looked all over the site, and can not find any sound or video clips of anyone running this exhaust, and since my bike is not running at the moment- i would like to know if anyone can upload a sound clip or anything.

If I end up selling it- the pipes and mufflers are perfect... accept that someone cut off, and welded the crossover pipe on the mufflers... What do you think I could get for the set up?

I've been contemplating selling all my bikes, and just getting a buell, and another project bike to keep me busy, and making some extra cash. So any hard to find parts, would probably be better off going to someone who really wants it. Not to say that i'm going to get rid of the xs11, but it's a possibility... I'm getting tired of HAVING to work on a motorcycle that's older than I am. And i'm running out of time and room for motorcycles.

BTW- I finally got the 1969 honda cb450 running tip top shape! Turn the ignition on, and hit the starter button, and it fires right up! no need for a choke! I'm proud of myself... and now i'm selling it. lol.

Keep in mind that although the Jardice headers will fit any XS or XJ 1100, the muffler mounts vary by model. This is not usually a big issue, as the muffler mounts can be re-worked in most cases. However, the system will be worth most to an owner of the bike it was designed for. In my case, the system I got was from a standard. I had to shorten the headers by about 1.5 inches and make up an extra strap to fit between the muffler and stock muffler mount. As is, the mufflers extend beyond the rear axle bolt, unlike stock on the XJ, which means replacing the rear tire is a bit more difficult. All these variations will have an effect on the selling price, as will the fact the mufflers have been modified.

Jardine made a few variations of muflers as well. The ones I have are not much different sounding thatn the stockers they replaced, but have a different sound when you get on the throttle. E. Liberty's system uses stock Jardiene turn-outs, which a quite a bit louder than mine.

Finally, cosmetic condition will play a role. Pipes in perfect condition, with no discoloration, dents, or scratches, will be worth more than the average used set of pipes. To that end, photos would be a big help in determining what might be a reasonable price.

Well, the pipes are perfect. Not exaggerating, either. That's one of the reasons I bought them. I'll have to post a picture over the weekend. I'll have to run a compression test and stuff (see other post) and i'll take a picture while i'm at it. Thanks for the info.

Now Jerry, that's interesting...My Jardines were taken from a 78E, and although they hang lower than I would like, they are the same length as the OEM Special mufflers. They do not extend back as far as the axle. I also have a set of Jardines that have an up sweep to them, and the mufflers are slash cut, like the XJ. Both of those sets have a cross-over pipe. I have seen some with turn out mufflers. It seems that there was a choice of mufflers for the XS from Jardine for the spaghetti pipes back then. I can recall the P/N for the mufflers on my bike was 8104. I haven't looked on the slash cuts for a P/N yet.

            John:

My point exactly. There were several variations of Jardine mufflers sold with the systems; some have more appeal than others. That's where photos would come in handy. Myself, I like the close-to-stock sound and E. Liberty likes the rumble as he goes past a concrete barrier or wall. It could make a difference in what one is willing to pay for a system.

On my XJ the Jardine mufflers hang lower than stock, but not to the point where there is interference with the center stand, side stand, or controls. However, they do extend farther back, past the axle, so I drop the mufflers when I change tires. The stock system did not need this extra step. If the prospective buyer is an XJ owner this may make a difference on what to bid for a system.

Will do! I haven't been able to go out there all weekend, been too busy with family get togethers, and trying to sell the CB450.

One of these days, i'll get with the program!
