  • Thanks, Thanks, Thanks

I just wanted to thank all the responders to the problems I was having with my carbs. All the info I've gotten off this web site has been right on. My old 79 special is idling smoth and running right again at last. The money I spent on that colortune gizmo was the best 65 bucks I ever spent on that bike. And replacing the pilot jets that came with the K&L rebuild kits was a major turning point.

I had the same problem with the damn Un-numbered K&L pilot jets when i used their kit. There should be a tech tip posted about that.
I have never tried the colortune, but I have a 4 Gas Analyzer at the shop I work on. I can also put the XS11 on the engine scope :-) that way I can see what is really happinging!

      Bill,

Since you are experienced in the problem, please write up a quick tech tip and e-mail or PM it to me and we can get it posted so others can enjoy!

      Thanks!!

I was about to ask the same question in my jumping rpm thread...where is a good, reliable, quick place I can get a motorcycle colortune?

Also, do I need to get the motorcycle version or is the car version the same thing?

              Check this guy out.

              http://www.rdent.com/pages/tools.html

I bought one from him, cheap as I could find and shipment was fast.

I got my motorcycle version colortune from that same place (rdent.com - $64.45 delivered right to the door) and it pretty much kiled the old advice I'd been given about just setting the idle mixture screws 1 to 2 turns out from the seated position. I think my # 4 cylinder was hardly firing at all. The colortune doesn't actually look like it's worth the money until you use it then you have no regrets.

I bought a new "Colortune 500" last summer and have never been able to get it to work correctly. It was new and I don't know why it won't work for me, but it arcs across the face of it.

If anyone wants it for $35 plus shipping - it's yours.

                    Hey Gary G.
I will write that up as a tech tip, in the next week or so. We got our first ridin weather here in Ohio this week, except for the 50+ degree day in the beggining of JAN.
