  • XJ 750 final drive

Will a 1982 XJ750 Seca final drive assembly work for the final drive mod to lower rpm on my 1980 SG?

    Hi Hbonser,

If your XJ is the same as ours, the bevel is NOT a straight swap onto the XS11; The spline to the wheel is different (spline and seal the opposite way round!) and the XJ750 has a narrow 18" swirly rim.

the bevel is a different length from the four-bolt mount to the spindle centre, and the shock mount is in a different place.

There may be more, but I remember that much!

I swapped the original bevel and 16"rim from my SG into a buddies' XJ750 hardtail....... Lot of work, but worth it for the look!

I figured it would be too easy and too good to be true that I am in Chicago for a wedding and my wife's uncle has an 82 Seca 750 he bought to restore (first bike he ever owned years ago) and also bought a donor Seca 750 to take parts from. He just happened to have a final drive assembly he was more than glad to send back to Colorado with me if it would work.

Thanks for the heads up and info as to the suitability.

Sorry that one won't work out for you, but the right ones can be had pretty cheap if you keep your eye out. ALMOST everyone who has ever done the swap has loved the new gearing.

          dropping the rpm's

Hi, I just went through the process of an easy swap to drop the rpm's on an xs1100 and am convinced the easiest way is to just pick up an old xs750 or xs850 rim for the rear. The size is 18" and drops the rpm's over 7 percent as I recall . Ebay has a lot of the rims available and is a straight swap, no rear differential problems, or gears or .....just mount and go. The only issue is you'll need another 18" tire to fit. I picked up an xs1100 with the 18" rim already on it and it took this forum to figure it out. There is a long thread on this subject,,,,,use the search.....good luck,,Mike in San Diego
