  • Carb #3 Dumping fuel

I have individual cone filters and larger jets on my 1980 xs11. Bike started hesitating just prior to getting to work this morning. I have fuel dumping from carb #3. Ran it a little this afternoon and she hesitated until all four fired and the power kicked in for a short time and then back to hesitating when I had to back off the throttle (darn city speed limits). Am I looking at taking apart and cleaning when I get home? Any thing I might be missing?

If only the one carb is dumping fuel, I would suspect a stuck float. Take a screwdriver, place it against the side of the #3 float bowl, and tap the screwdriver with a block of wood or hammer. That will probably stop (temporarily) the leaking issue, by dislodging the bit of crud that is stuck in the needle seat causing the float to not fully seat it's needle.

Sad to say, it may require a full cleaning of the carbs, petcocks, and tank to completely get rid of the rust and crud that is seeping into your carbs.

Thanks, that is what I thought. Fortunately with the cone filters I know exactly which float is causing the issue and I can have the carbs out in about 10 minutes. Thanks again
