Hi everybody, I've had this xs1100 since december. It has been a massive project bike. Thanks to this site I've gotten to where I have... although I believe this is my first post.
I am finally putting miles on it and I think my 2nd grear is shot. The rest of the gears, the clutch, and the shaft are all solid, but everytime I get into 2nd gear and accelerate beyond a certian point the bike skips and bounces. I thought it felt like I am missing some teeth. The odd thing is I can accelerate fairly smoothly through second gear at a low RPM and with little throttle. Also, it downshifts through 2nd smoothly without a problem.
Does this sound like anything anybody has experienced? Is it by chance an easy fix?
On a side note, for what I can tell this bike is a frankenstein of mostly a 1980 XS1100 and many parts from a 1982 XJ1100. I have pieced together electrical systems, redone the carbs, the entire vaccuum assisted fuel delivery system was wrong, and have had a hell of a time finding brake parts and some random other items for it.
I appreciate any input... and good work to anybody who adds to this site.
