Today i finally got my parts from BikeBandit and thought i would replace the needle valve and seat. I removed the phillips head screw and took off the seat retainer.I sprayed some WD-40 and let it sit for 5 minutes.I turned the seat and pulled upwards and the seat came out.Underneath the seat was a whole bunch of sludge where the filter sat.I sprayed some carb cleaner and a q-tip and cleaned out all the sludge. My question to the carb gurus-I know that sludge in the carbs is never good but where did this come from? What part in the needle valve assembly goes bad causing gas to leak out of the carb.I suspect its the o-ring .Can the o-ring be obtained at a auto parts store? How important was it to remove the crap under the seat?I'm afraid what lies underneath all the other valve seats. Also because BikeBandit is so slow to get parts from where can i obtain the whole needle valve and seat assembly?

MikesXS has lots of parts, just don't ASK him/them if they will fit an XS11!
Carb Float Valve (Needle & Seat)
Carb Float Valve (Needle & Seat) - Push in type with O-Ring seal, needle & clip.
Fits: XS650G/H/SH/SJ/SK/SL (1980-84) stock Mikuni BS34 CV carbs.
Part #48-1445 $10.00 USD EA.
The rubber tips on the valve needles get worn, a crease forms in them, the rubber can get hard, all can lead to them not sealing properly, not to mention crud slipping past the filter and getting wedged between the seat and valve!

I went to my local NAPA store, and they just GAVE me the o-rings! Do yourself a favor and bring the carb body and seat with you to do a test fit to determine the correct size...Hi...my name is Mike, and I'm a lane-splitter.
