  • Ok gotta be missing something

I have followed the directions to remove the gears. I have pulled 5th, removed the oil pan, removed the oil pump and for some reason I can not for the life of me slide the remaining gears out of my tranny. Do I need to pull the bearing on the right side? Is it possible I missed a C clip somewhere?

    Ideas?

Are you sure you put it in 4th gear when you started?
Did you remove the shift forks? On mine I had to remove all 3 of the shift forks before I was able to wiggle the rest of the gears/shaft out. I think the directions say you can push them up out of the way but I couldn't.

Yup, I have all 3 shift forks out, and have pulled 5th gear.

just keep wiggling all those gears and they will slide out. I kind of pushed on the shaft while holding the largest gears in place to get a little more clearance. Its a pain but you'll get it eventually.

When you say you followed the directions, have you seen all of the variations listed here? I think most of this stuff has been captured at the forum, but maybe a second read will trigger some thing that you missed.

Thanks guys, After a lot of wiggling and jiggling they finally dropped out.

Looking then there is some very, very slight rounding on the dogs and slot so I am going to do the fix while I have them out. That explains the slipping in 2nd I have felt from time to time.

What am I looking for with bent shift forks. I am not seeing the spec on the gap or width of them. I do see some more than expected wear on one of them and will probably replace that one. Not seeing any damage to the shift drum or anything else in there that would explain the jammed in second and jammed in second.
