  • vacuum issues!!

I have rebuilt the carbs and added the pod filters. Now when the bike starts up at idle it revs to 4500rpms and stays there. When I give it any throttle it dies. The pipes start getting extremely hot fast so I know it is running lean NOT GOOD... I took the pod filters off #1 and #4 and if I partially cover the back of the carbs it runs fine and idles fine and takes throttle perfectly. The two vacuum lines are hooked up correctly, but I do not know what to do with the two top T's between #1-#2 carb and #3-#4 carbs I know that originally they went to the air box for vacuum but what do I do with them now that I have the pods? Or is there something else I am missing???
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

After going to pods you will need to re-jet the carbs. If you look in the tech tips there is a thread with some recommended starting points for the re-jet based on your filters and exhaust.

The top two lines from the carbs just need to vent to the air, some just run the lines up between the filters and leave them open, others will 'T' them together and put one of those little chrome breather filters on it. Whatever you do don't cap them off, if you do your carbs will not work right.

      Hey Ricky,

A few other things. First, how well did you clean the carbs? Did you disassemble them, removing all of the jets, main nozzle/emulsion tube, pilot screw, etc.? Also, did you soak the carbs in a bucket of cleaner.....a definite NO NO...damage to butterfly shaft seals can occur.

Once cleaned, did you Vac. Synch the carbs?

Also, there are good and not so good of Indy Pod Filters. There is a tech tip that you can find by SCROLLING DOWN FROM THE MAIN FORUM PAGE...not just by clicking on the links in the left column, that will show some mods for velocity stacks with pod filters, as well as the problem with some of the cheaper Emgo filters that have a more prominent lip on the inside of the mounting area that can cause air restrictions thru the many ports on the inlet bell!

As Psycho said, do not cap off the upper "T" fittings, just run them up under the gastank, put a small fuel filter on the hose, etc.!
