I have an '81 H w/ the Vetter bags and crash bar assembly. My wife says the passenger pegs are too close to the crashbars and the backs of her calves are getting banged up. In order to have a smoother and quieter ride......with a passenger, do any of you have any modification suggestions to the pegs? I have a few passenger mods in mind but I'll leave that for another thread!

I'm sure you didn't mean that the way it sounded- LOL!
I have the same problem with HWMBO's Road King. My calves are still 'mooing' from last weeks Laconia excursion.
Someone here must have done something along that line...

Cool!!!
Well, Happy Anniversary in advance!!!
I just thought it was funny the way it sounded. So did you when you reread it, huh?
Good idea to get her more comfortable pegs for her 'pegs'. Look what happened to me-I went and got my own dang motorbike!!
Might make a good anniversary present...
If you think that's a good idea-you wouldn't have made it 15 years!!!LOL!!80 XS1100G w/ Windjammer-the Witch

Hey Scribestone,
Aside from the pegs, you can get mini floorboards from places like JCW's motorcycle section that you could put on there, and would allow her room to position her feet more forward with a larger platform for resting them on instead of just a "PEG"!?

I guess I was wrong about the footpeg location...it is actually attached to the bolts that attach the bracket to the frame. The bracket has been machined to remove the recess that the bolt sets into. Here's the best pic I have of the side of the bagger.
Please ignore the "Second ugliest seat in the world". It has been replaced with an OEM seat.Last edited by John; 06-27-2008, 07:57 AM.

Similar problem
My SWMBO is so short she can't reach the passenger pegs at all and I need to raise the peg about 4" as she's a "keeper" as well and will be mine for 31 yrs next month. I'm considering making an extension to raise them. You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

Easiest mod there is........Did it some time back on my 81 Venturer. Do as John did, cept measure distance of recess(forgot what that was), cut exactly that wide off a stainless 3/8" pipe fitting for the spacer, buy longer shouldered metric stainless bolts, bolt them back on and your set. To have correct position when pegs are down, fold them up, pivot at same angle as angled frame support, tighten bolts. Have never had one pivot out of position , even when being used as as step to get on bike, and passenger will be much happier. Long touring, when using my road pegs, wife will extend feet to my footrest for a different location and comfort change. If it's an extended tour, over 500miles and mostly slabbing an interstate, needing to just pound out the miles from point A to point B, the ST is the ride of preference.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Hey Moto, that's a great idea! Thanks. It sort of reminds me of a similar mod I had to do on my previous bike (VL800 Zook Volusia). The same passenger, the same problem. The psgr pegs were too close to the bags. My dear beloved solved that problem by kicking the crap out of the bags with her heels until she broke the holding straps on the bags. Then they moved enough to get her dainty heels on the pegs..... I discovered this little tidbit after replacing the straps several times. Grrrrr.
I got online with a Volusia forum and had the great fortune of someone else's wisdom. I took the pegs off and inverted them AND switched them over to the opposite sides of the bike. This brought the pegs forward a few inches and gave the passenger more room. Fortunately the pegs were designed in such a way that they didn't flop down when inverted. The mod also called for a piece of pipe to act as a spacer for the added length needed to make it fit right. I didn't have the pipe but I did have some long bolts and a ton of washers! So I shimmed it out with enough washers to create a "pipe". It worked perfectly.
I'll post a R&D report after I get the mod in place. Thanks to all of you who replied to this. Happy trails!Semper Fi,
