  • Samsonite questions!

Hi, just bought a brand new (!) set of Samsonite luggage on ebay... my old set is getting a bit ratty... I have two questions that I KNOW someone can answer!

    1. What kind of paint can be used on these to match my bike?

    2. what can be done to protect them from melting onto the exhaust pipes, other than getting different pipes? One of my old ones has a plate of stainless mouted over where the bag got totally blistered... I'd like to modify the bike or bag before that happens to these new ones...

    thanks!

    Samsonite questions part 2!

    Part two!

I also have a nice set of stock rear guards that don't fit over the Samsonite mounts very well... anyone successfully used these some way with the Samsonite bags? I went down twice at slow speed last summer and really scuffed up the bags I had... if I could figure a way with shims, etc to mount these guards I could avoid that the next time (please notice I am accepting there will be a next time!)...

    TIA!!

      Hey there Doc,

Can't help you with the paint, but those bags do flex, so I would think you would want something that is fairly elastic.

I would think you could either get some sort of WRAP to put around the muffler to shield it from the bags...might not be to aesthetically appealing? Or you might be able to make a plate/barrier/shield to mount in between the pipes and the bottom of the bags, again perhaps wrapped in a muffler type of material, since I don't know IF we can get anything made with Asbestos anymore!?

As for your guards.......they usually bolt onto the upper shock bolt/nut area, and then down near the foot peg mount. Again, might be a matter of adding a fairly thick piece of bracket/steel to allow repositioning of the lower mount so that it "might" clear the bags....don't know...don't know the dimensions or shape of your guard!?

I'll give it another look, the added bracket might be the answer... thanks!
