  • my zrx carbs...

ok i bought some zrx carbs for 50 bucks a while back. i have not done alot of research except reading what a couple of people on here have tried. i keep hearing that the new carbs transition better. and they start easier.

here is the dilema. i have the carbs... don't know what the jet size is and i have no problems changing the jets i just am not sure which ones to use....???

i had hoped since the kwaky it came off of was a 1200 cc that it would be jetted richer than the stock carbs.

this would help because i have the kerker with the baffle and packing removed. i now have the mike's lovely pods. and my carbs seem to have been superbly jetted already. this thing screams with no stumble's anywhere.....

what are the odds of just swapping carbs and it working great right out of the box?

also i will no doubt have to figure out the throttle cable issues.

i had them on my xj that was sitting in the garage and the bike ran like poo but that's because it sat for 10 years... has crud in the exhaust and no airbox on it.

the throttle would open but it didn't operate very well. i tried to put the cable into the braket on the carbs hoping i would not have to adjust anything.
also i have the choke off the xj i could rig somehow if i could just get the throttle right...

plus on a side not i wonder since the slides are plastic if they would absorb less motor sound and it would sound louder at the pods...???
    just an odd question...

oh and i got video footage i have to go put on here in a bit!

if i can't use the jets from the zrx 1200 then can anyone recommend on which ones to get.

    Hi Yamahansolo,

Unless you get a call from someone with EXACTLY the same set-up as yourself, the only way is to try it and see!..... Even if there is a similar set-up out there, it can only be a starting point.

When I fitted Slingshots to my SG, I was probably quite lucky; It fired up and idled right from hitting the button. It sounded a bit "fluffy" on a run round the block, so I lifted the needle a notch....... then another after trying it again. It was better, so I took it to WOT and pulled the clutch and killed the engine. (a plug chop!) It semed a touch weak, so I put the mains up a size or two.

That left it OK at the top but rich in the middle, so the needles came back down. After a reset on the pilots and a synch, it was pretty close, although a run on the dyno netted almost another 20 BHP.

The same sequence will NOT do for your bike, but the same idea applies..... Ideally you need to get the mains right first, then work down through the ranges, finishing up with the pilots, although I had to get the lower ranges close before mine would even get to the upper ranges.

However, the difference in the response, power and economy has to be tried to believe!

    Best of luck.

If it ain't broke, modify it!
