  • broken speedo cable

Trying to replace a broken speedo cable on a (cute) friend's bike (81 xs850), but I can't get the wheel side out. It spins with the wheel, but won't budge a bit towards out.

Little help? Hint? Before I just start taking the whole wheel apart?

    Pain

    not sure

I am not sure about the 850, but the 1100 has a bolt underneath that holds the cable to the wheel hub. Look for a bolt.

There is definitely a bolt down on the wheel side that needs to be removed.

Check out the schematic for the speedomer / tachometer assembly.

The cable is different on her bike, more like a xs11 standard, with the screw-on hub. the hub and outer sheath are off, and there is about an inch of the cable sticking out.

took it for a test ride to see if it would just fall out, but no luck.

Just yank it out witha a pair of pliers or vise grip. There is nothing that is attached there, it just slips in.
