  • er....did I break my bike?

I was vacuum testing this afternoon in the garage (yes...the door was open heh) with a fan on the engine. Got her all dialed in and tuned. She can idle down to about 6-700rpm no problem.

I killed the engine. Threw some rags in the trash behind me. Turned around and there was gas coming from #2 carb. I killed the shut off valve, cleaned it up, and restarted...no problem.

About 2 hours later I was going to head out, tried to start the bike...nothing...pulled the plugs...all looked fine ( a little on the carbon side..but nothing bad). I put them back in, fired her up, number 2 wasn't firing. Pulled the plug...oil fouled. Started her up again...white smoke from the pipe going to #1 and #2.

    Any thoughts?

The white smoke is not unusual from a bike that is flooded with fuel. I suspect that the leak is two ways forward into the piston and backward into the air box. It looks as if you have to redo the float height or the float needles. You may have to change the oil if it has leaked past the rings into the oil sump. Check the oil to see if you have a strong fuel smell as running with an oil/fuel mix may damage your main bearings. Diluted oil is not good.

      well....

After posting the thread, I went to start her up and show my roommate and the smoke was gone. Weird... Guess I'll have to still pull the carbs and check the floats.

      oh well...

PS. For anybody that hasn't synced their carbs...you have no idea what you're missing. I did it with two vacuum gauges from the autoparts store ($17 each).
