  • Replacing the carbs

Hello guys...... here is the dilema.....

We bought the bike just over a month ago. It needed Carb work. We pulled the carbs and found that some of the float pin ears (the part the float pin slides through the carb body to hold the float in place) were broke. Bought different carbs on ebay. Received different carbs. My husband did whatever needed to be done to the new carbs and they are ready to be reinstalled.

Now we got the carbs back on the bike and want to make sure there are no leaks or flooding or overflowing of the carbs to contaminate the oil again. We got the gas lines all run from the tank and the octopus thingy. We got the two lines that run to the aircleaner.

BUT there is one spot for a hose on the front side of the carb located almost directly below where that octopus thing bolts to the top of the carb. Does anyone know where that hose should run?? We cannot find anyplace to run that hose to. I don't know but I think it is a vacuum line and not a fuel line but seeing that all are black and there is no real difference in the size I could really be wrong. My husband says he could just plug it off but if it is a vacuum line the carbs won't run well and if it is a gas line it definately won't run well.

Any help guys? Any of you know where that one line runs from the carb body directly under the octopus (I think it is on carb 2 starting on the left hand side of the bike). Thanks guys.

If it's on #2 carb, towards the engine. (#2 is 2nd from the left when sitting on the bike) it's the hookup for the vacuum advance. Three should be a hose coming out of the left engine cover that reaches up there.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

The line from the left engine cover runs up to the Carb #1 boot. Is this incorrect?? Or is it just some kind of modification someone has done.

So if that is an okay place for that vacuum line to run what do we do with the connection on the #2 carb? Plug it off??

      Thanks.

        Hey Zookey,

The metal port on the #2 carb body is specifically designed for use with the Vacuum advance module, smaller port so it doesn't cause surges. The other ports on the intake manifolds are only for use with either Standard vacuum actuated petcocks, or the vacuum control module of the special...OCTY, and for doing vacuum synchronizations. Plug the advance into the #2 carb, cap off the intake manifold port!

Thank you TopCat! Appreciate the info. Your answer then raised another question in my mind then......... There is a vacume line that runs from the the thing that the gas lines run into and then to the carbs (octapus?) to the #2 boot....... is that okay or is that suppose to hook somewhere else?

We really don't need any more issues with this bike........ it would be really nice to get to ride at some point this summer.
