    plug wire change

    O.K heres what i did.... followed the wire change info posted on this site [milled out the coil put wire in and rtv'd etc] all went quite well, but could not get wires like is explained on this site, so just bought auto wires and used them.
    before i dismantled the old coil/wire the resistance on 1/4 was 23 ohms. across 2/3 it was 15 like it should. [btw, i suspected wire 4as this is where i got zapped] . any way...after the new auto wires were installed i read 22k ohms across 1/4 and 2/3. at least they were consistent. pretty needless to say it don't work. will fire but not run. so...any info or links to sites with the rite wires and or plugs would be appreciated. so far $16 pissed away on auto wires. this is an 80 midnite 1100

      you need to use wire with a stranded metal core, not the resistor core that OEM auto wires are made of. ACCEL is one brand, there are other off-brands, you can get them on Ebay, too. If you can find an S&K Speed shop near you, they sell it by the foot, cut off the roll.

          I have been using 8mm NON solid-wire wires without resistors along with the Dyna coils for 3 years now with No problems....what's the big deal with the solid wire? I could care less about someones radio reception (cap resistors were FCC propaganda)

                  What plug caps did you put on? If you use resistor caps and resistor wire= that would cause too much resistance.
                  If your caps are nonresistance (less than 1 ohm) already, then try removing the ballist resistor and see what happens.

                      If you can't figure it out, the high output coils from MikesXS work great and are cheap compared to the Dyna or Accel coils. You CAN use the auto style wires with them.

                          MRO is correct. If it will fire but not run, the ballast resister is probably toast. The ballast resistor is bypassed when the engine is cranked for maximum starting voltage, but once the starter is released, all voltage to the coils goes through the resistor. If it is defective, no voltage to the coils.

                              If the ballast resistor is toast, and you bypass it and it works, that's good. Just don't run it that way for any length of time or the TCI will be damaged. Get a replacement resistor before you put it on the road.
