  • Ebay XJ1100 in PA - Worth it?

I'm looking at buying the XJ (because I need another one so I can mod one and keep the other unmodded) posted in this ebay add. It appears to be in awesome shape, but is it worth his asking price? His reserve price is $2100.

Hope I get a few quick replies. We got any forumites close that could take a look for me?

That one looks almost perfect. If it was a Canadian bike it would be gone.

Man oh man. That's two "Yay's" and no "Nay's", both of which said they'd have already bought it if they could! I reckon I better hop on this sucker if I want it! Anybody else got something to say?

I sent an email to the guy with a few questions and an offer that was above his reserve but below his "Buy It Now" price. Can't wait to get a reply back from him! I think I'll get it even if he doesn't like my offer.

I've never had anything other than the 160mph speedo on these bikes. Do they make a higher speedo for that make/model? Too easy to peg that needle....

So you are saying you pegged a 160mph speedo on a stock XS1100?

                        The right side looks AWESOME!

There were some questionable spots on the left side though that raised a couple of questions... looks like it had a nasty carb leak at some point... Some discoloration in the headers that maybe it needed some work (or maybe already had some carb work done? maybe had some done after the leak?) I thought I noticed some discoloration on the left side of the engine around the valve cover gasket... maybe it's already been replaced (or maybe I was seeing things)

If it runs REALLY well, I'd think $2100 isn't TOO bad (more than I would be willing to pay... but I already have 2 bikes)... I also think I'd want to know what caused the discolorations and if the problems have been fixed before I paid that much...
That's a lot of money for a shiny yard ornament...

                        just my $.05

I guess I'm in the minority here...

I wouldn't pay that much for a 27 year old bike unless I rolled it off the museum floor. Wait until winter and pick one up for about half that price or less... Ride the one you have.

Kat, I sent him an email asking. In his ad he says he did a lot of work last summer. I'll be curious to see what he says.

Haha, yeah, I've put in my bid. I'd hate to get into a bidding war with a fellow XSer!...

Tod, I'd like to wait till then to do it, but I'm coming home back to the States in the fall and I'd like to have a bike to ride while I play with the other. Plus, I've got the money now and who knows when I might see another XJ in this good of shape again? I guess time will tell if I made the right decision or not.
