  • Made it Home

I,ve used the technical forum to let all those who contributed to my education that I made it home safely. I left Loomis wednesday morning at 6:00 AM and reached Noxon Mt. by 5:00 PM thursday. The bike ran beautifully all the way. Both my son and I were very impressed with the 1100 special. I,m proud as a peacock with this bike.

I cant thank you all enough for rising to the desperate challenge I initiated. I,d already spent too much money with a mechanic without adequate results. I had no real choice but to iron out the carburation problems the bike was still having. I wouldn,t even attempted it had not this forum and it,s members provided so much information and advice that I truely began to grasp the mechanics of this bike.

I will tell you that I took your advice and backed the pilot screws to the 1-1/4 stock setting. I changed the repeatedly fouled plugs to new ones after examining them under a magnifying glass. I felt that because they still fired they would be OK: but examination revealed a thin coat of carbon or deposit that must have diminished it,s capacity. I checked the plugs at two consecutive rest stops and they still looked like new. I believe that something was choking off the exhaust because the bike has never run remotely hot since leaving loomis. Also the loud popping sound upon decelaration has diminished to barely disernable. In fact the entire sound of my exhaust system has changed noticably. The bike is much quietier during accelaration. I want to thank Maximus on behalf of the entire forum for the remarkable pictorial of spark plug appearance, cause and adequacy.

I haven,t been able to post until now because I don,t have a computer and neither do most of the people I know here. I,m gonna miss this forum because I have so many more good questions and I know it,s members would provide a wealth of answers useful to all. I plan to keep this bike for the rest of my life and I know that involves knowledge and application. You can bet I'll be back every chance I get.
