Carbs. You either need to clean or replace the float valves.

Don't run it like that. Your float or floats are not working right. Either stuck or set wrong or not so likely not floating. Change the oil before you run it again. The smoking should clear up on its own.

Most of these old girls really need the carbs really cleaned well. Once done though you should be ok.

One or more leaking float valves is only part of your problem. If you have standard, at least one of your petcocks is also leaking. If you have Special, your octopus is also leaking. You must fix both problems.

BTW - you might want to update your profile to indicate which model you do have.

Send pics and we should be able to tell you. The special tank is teardrop shaped whereas the Standard tank is boxier. At any rate when you have your tank off the bike check if the petcocks are leaking.

If the floats stick and the fuel is shut off, your engine and air box will get the fuel left in the lines and bowls. Butttttttt. if you fuel isn't shut off and your floats stick you will get as much fuel as your tank will allow.

You will most likely have to go throught the carbs. Take your time and make sure everything is spotless. You will also need to check you float heights and the condition of your float valves, (check for any grooves where they normally seat)

Probably wouldn't hurt to run inline fuel filters when you put everthing back together.

Unless it has a petcock like one of mine that leaks just a tiny bit even when shut off. Someday maybe I should pull that darn thing. But not today.
