    Austin,
Your sequence is correct, as for syncing at high rpms I have never found it needfull. I usually sync at 1000 rpm. If the bike won't idle at that speed to sync try a little higher. Once you have it synced you can decrease idle and recheck it. As John pointed out, once it is synced well you can lower the idle speed to well below 1000 rpm and it will still idle smoothly. My normal idle speed is around 800 rpm.

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

      sync

I made my own sync out of a yard stick 12' of clear tubing a couple of wire ties and a coat hanger , throw in a couple of used pilot jet to minimize pressure an viola carbs are synced

You can even go all out and make one with 4 tubes. Cheap and as accurate as it gets.

Warm up engine to proper temp
Sync carbs 3 to 4 with the screw that's between them
Sync carbs 1 to 2 with the screw between them
Sync both pairs with the screw between 2 and 3.

According to my manual, you should synch #1 to #2, #4 to #3, then synch 1&2 to 3&4 by the center screw.

              John,
According to my book he is correct. #3 is not adjustable exept by the idle adjust so you must start there.

              Garth,
Thanks for the 6 billion pixel pictures of something that he cannot build in his rental unit.

To the rest of you that won't believe what 40+ years of experience and the rebuild of over 300 bikes will tell ya--GOOD BYE!!!!

Uh...Bye. I suppose that I do agree that you can use one or four gages or manomenters or whatever. The end result must be the same -- vacuum balance at the low rpms end. When you are done with adjustments and recheck the readings they should be equal. Period. You don't like pictures dragontamer? I do. experience goes a long way and that should not take away from a man's credibility.

                  Oh wow...

I thought only oil, gas and tires started these heated debates. Guess we can add single/multiple vacuum tuning to the list too.

Thank you for all the responses. I love this forum. I should get her dialed in this week along with a 750 fd mod.
