Floorboards, Forward Controls

Has anyone fitted a set of controls like this to a 79SF? I had never seen a set like this until they showed up on the Bay this morning. They look like they might have been a production item at some time but I just don't know...

I do promise, by the way, that when I feel more fully competent in wrenching this bike, that I will start offering advice to others.

Floorboards and Ride off stand

Hi Gareth, I am the guy who put the floorboards on EBAY. I am selling a lot of the items that I bought for projects, which I know I am never going to get to.

To answer your question, Markland made something like this awhile back. You see them on ebay every so often. These say Yamaha on them, but they also have an M/C Insignia which I think is the manufacturer. I don't know if Yamaha ever sold an accessory like this. Maybe someone else can help us out on that.

I have also listed a ride off stabilizer type stand specifically made for an XS11 that is really cool if you have a heavily loaded bike. No center stand to mess with. You just get on, put it in gear and ride away. It is in perfect condition and I was hoping someone on the list might pick it up.

Different companies used to make those for all sorts of bikes I used to have a Honda CB750 with a set . they are very comfortable, but they use up a lot of lean angle. I've also known guys who removed the pegs and installed a set of passenger floor boards in their place, but it's hard to sort out the controls that way.

Hey Guys, I actually installed a set of these on my 1980 XS1100 Special and ran with them for one season. They worked well and looked nice. The only trouble I had was the lean angle is a lot less but if you are using these you probably aren't that worried about that anyway.
I decided to go back to the stock system as I changed the look of my bike. They were nice though and not hard to install if you have instructions and all the parts. Take care and happy riding!

Forward Controls needed

I have long legs and feel a little cramped when riding my 80 xs11. Would like to be able to stretch out some.

I am looking for an inexpensive set of forward controls or at least highway pegs. Any one know where I can find a set?

I have been using a set like in the 3rd picture for several years now. At first, I had quite a time at stops. (30 " inseam) Now I would not be without them. Very comfy on trips. I also have a heel and toe shifter, but am thinking more in line with forward controls. Also have passenger foot boards, loved by all my passengers.

i got mine from baltimore cycle salvage. they only had the engine saver bars and i just attached pegs from jc whitney and they work grerat for long trips to strech out. to see a pic.

I find that floor boards bruise my ankles at a stop.

I have a couple sets of these that I've been hording for the last few years and I've decided not to use them on my XS11.

Right now the plan is to modify the unknown set for use on my Wing and keep my XS11 more sporty.

I've wondered about the positioning with the legs, but I've never had a bike with boards, so I am not sure how I would like them.

I know several people who have them on other bikes, and like them. I don't like highway pegs, so more room to move the feet around sounds like a good idea.

I guess they're one of those things you have to get used to... I've test ridden many bikes that had foot boards and they great on the road but awkward in slow traffic.

If my wife and I are ever going to ride 2 up, foot boards are going to be a necessity. Once I'm that far forward on the seat, I no longer have enough leg room and even a short ride is painful.

That is an option but the XS has a notably weak seat frame. I'll probably do that on the other bike where I haven't already spent a hundred bucks redoing the seat...
