  • New Registration

Just got tags for my bike!

Somebody here had mentioned International Title Servise out of Nevada.

After basically being told here in Florida that getting registration was imposible without a title, I contacted them and paid the $140 fee.

This was after trying to find a titled frame for a good price, that was fairly local (no luck).

They requied a photcopy of my driver's license, notarized bill of sale, insurance card and a notarized power of attourney (they provide). In return I now have (after about 3 weeks) a new set of Maine tags, and a registration.

I'll probably ride with them till they expire and then I'll be able to get the bike registered and titled here.

Much easier than going the new frame route.

So I can definately tell you that they do business as advertized, if you follow their intructions as far as getting paperwork notarized etc.

Now I have a reason to finish this project!

In Virginia, it is a requirement if you are a resident of the state to re-register your vehicle in the state (tax purposes I guess) within 30 days except if you are in the Military. I do not know if the insurance that you carry will be enforced if you are not legally registered in the state you reside. Check with your Division of Motor Vehicles just to be sure. It is a small price to pay to be sure.

I was lucky that New Hampshire didn't require me to have the title. The previous owner in Connecticut said he didn't have it. I guess both NH and Conn only require them a certain amount of years in the past, I am not sure what the cut off is.

All I had to do was have the local police do a VIN verification and sign off on a paper stating it was not stolen. Running the VIN showed the previous owner through Conn.

Other than that, I paid something like $25 (I think it was only about that much) to get my tag. Another $20 for an Inspection.

Oh ya...I did have a bill of sale.

No insurance, emissions, or inspection required for motorcycles. But yes, you gotta have a title.
