  • Brake pad installation

Okay, I admit it...I'm new to working on motorcycles.

I've done brake jobs on numerous cars, so I thought the brakes on the bike would be the same. However, when it comes to the rear brake pads on my 1980 XS1100 Standard, I feel foolish.

The pads on a car have clips that hold them in place in the caliper...one goes in the piston itself. However, I cannot see that this is the case on the motorcycle. Are the pads in the brake pads supposed to be inserted into the spring clip at the top of the caliper?

    Please help educate this newb.

    Thank you!

    Tim

You could always get the new pads then just look at how they are held in. On my dads HD there are no clips they just sit there. Those clips are a pain in the a**.

      Tim,

Bring the caliper and pads over when you come get the rotor and I will show you how it goes back together.
