  • Plexifairing 3 Windshield

Anyone mounted the Plexifairing 3 Windshield on a XJ1100J Maxim '82?

I KNOW WE HAVE SQUARE BARS! However I was thinking to machine some round extensions to mount where the square bar meets the round bars at the controls. The extension would be long enough to accept the standard fitments, what do you-all think.

Ps It will be my PaPa day gift so I need to order today so I can go to the the Meeting of the Minds Rally

I'm not familiar with this windshield, but almost every aftermarket shield that I have looked at has an option for round or square bar brackets??

I know about the hardware for square bars but don't like the looks The Plexishield 3 has lower leg protections like a fairing has. Saw one on a twin Honda and looked real good. Rider said it was great in winter for stopping the wind blast from down under
What do you think about the turned post extensions mounted at the round to square connection?

That's how I mounted my windshield. Works great!

Looks great! I was thinking of stainless, polished but black looks very good also. There is a snap in plastic piece that goes over the tree bolts just under the speedo/tac and yours is missing. Is this on purpose or do you want one? I have one but not with the 1000 insert. let me know.

The S-00 is close to the Plexifairing 3 Windshield but has shorter lowers.

Well Just bought the Plexfairing 3 for $186.99 from JC. Whitney. Will arrive by Friday, if lucky.

I will now machine the stub extensions for it so I can be ready to mount. Will picture it when finished

Thanks, They are actually the ends cut from some old bicycle handlebars. I just welded some heavy washers to the inside ends and bolted them on. Then I pluged the open end with the plugs from the ends of the bicycle bars.

That part was missing when I purchased the bike and I have'nt been able to find one. It wouldn't mater to me if the 1100 insert isn't on it. PM me with what you want for it.

                    Thanks,

yahman, that is a brilliant way of mounting the upper handlebar clamps.
trbig, the plexi III is the same windshield that I have.

                        My ears can't take it!!!!!!!!!!

I just mounted a Plexifairing 3 on my XJ1100, using Yahman's idea for the handlebar mounts (thanks for that; much better than forking out the extra $ for the square bar hardware bags). I currently have it mounted right down on the headlight, with the rubber gasket in place, with the front of the headlight opening just aft of the headlight rim, which places the "lowers" parallel to the forks and gives the windshield quite a bit of rake. When seated, I'm looking about 2 inches over the top of the windshield. Although it's nice to not have the drag on my full face helmet, I'm getting a really annoying wind buffet off the windshield. It's so bad that my ears actually hurt after riding for about an hour. While ear plugs are an option, I really hope there's something else I can do to reduce the noise.

Can anyone else out there who's mounted a Plexifairing on their XJ please share their experience? I would really like to know how you high you have it mounted and how the angle is (pictures would be greatly appreciated). I'd also like to hear if any of you have the same noise problem. I've read somewhere that it's better to have a bit of a gap around the headlight to allow some air to come through there, which can reduce the buffet. So, I could try to move it up a bit and/or remove the rubber gasket around the headlight. That being said, the windshield is already interfering with the air valve on the top of the LH fork, so I'm not sure if I can easily raise it. I'll have to see if I can turn that around so that the air fitting is on the back side of the fork tube, instead of on the front side where it was originally installed.

I really like the looks of the Plexifairing on my XJ, and I hope I can find a way to quiet it down. If not, I'll be looking for a different kind of windshield.

I don't have a Plexifairing 3, I have a Slipstreamer on mine and it's a little different. I have it mounted so that there's a 1/2 inch gap from the headlight and about a 1/2 back from where yours is. The windshield is leaning back at the same angle as the forks. I can take some more photos of it tomorrow if you like. I would try to get yours a little more upright, that would kick the air flow up a bit more. I would also increase the gap around the headlight. I added a photo of my XJ1100.

                          Hope this helps,
                          Larry

If it is the type with the lower extensions, and should you decide to part with it, I'd like to buy it. I want a new one to replace my cracked one.

                              Thanks Yahman.

I'm going to try removing the rubber "gasket" around the headlight opening and raising the windshield up 1/2 inch or so. Hopefully this will let a little air in at the bottom. I'll also see if I can tilt it a bit more upright.
