  • Electircal Failure

This one may be simple, but I'd like some input from others before I start rebuilding the bike one component at a time.

The bike quit on me as I was leaving for work (just a couple hundred yards from the house) and now it will not start. Voltage is confirmed everywhere I can think to confirm it. Pressing the start button does nothing, but if I jump the posts on the starter relay it will turn over and I can hear the engine fire. As soon as I remove my relay bypass tool (screwdriver) everything quits. Shouldn't I be able to jump the relay to start the bike and have it keep running? I've tested the run switch and start button for continuity and they seem fine, I think. Anyone have any ideas or have had the same problem?

I just found a recent post with a similar problem to mine

    http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...threadid=17364

I'll be checking to see if that fix works for me before I bug everybody with a possible duplicate post.

Fuses, check all fuses first, then check all connections.

Yep, that is where I started. Now that I found and read that other post I'm going to go back and actually put the tester on each fuse instead of just doing a visual. I might even replace them all just for kicks.

I've had some problems in the past with loose connections, but I think I have those straightened out.
