  • Petcock Rebuild - Eliminates Vibrations

Just like the title says... I am pleasantly surprised after rebuilding my petcocks. Ordered the rebuild kits from georgfix on ebay. They had everything needed for the petcocks and my silly octy thing.

After rebuilding the petcocks and octy, I took her for a spin. Used to have this BAD vibration at 5-6k RPM and a leaky left side petcock. That vibration and the leak is gone! Who would have thunk it.

What I want to know is, is your headlight brighter? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

No sir! I just can't imagine the connection. I could be that a plug wire was shorting to ground and in the process of the repair, you inadvertantly moved it to a better position. :-)

Dont think plug wires. I took care of the plug/wire repair several months ago. I guess anything is possible. The vibration I had was intense at 5-6k RPM. Nothing changed after I fixed the plugs/wires.

Skids, He was probably STARVING one pair of carbs, so the engine was NOT producing a "balanced" power. That IS one way to induce vibrations into a bike.

If the engine was being starved for fuel it would vibrate and with that issue now corrected it likely does run smoother and should also have more power.

The bike does have a little more power. And it's smoother, mostly at higher speeds. A bit more fuel friendly as well. 39mpg

I tried searching for vibration problems a few months ago. Didn't find anything related to petcocks. Hopefully this will help another XSive noob.
