    Hey guys, I just replaced my voltage reg/rec on my 80 special, I put the tank back on, made sure the fuel lines were in right spots, wont stay running, starts for a quick second, and stops. Is there a procedure I need to go through to prime it or is it flooded?

    Ok I checked the plugs, they were dry, I blew out all the fuel lines, Its weird, if I hold the start button down it stays running, but as soon as I let off it dies..... Any ideas Gurus?

      wow thats the same thing mine is doing but when I pulled the timing cover off the left side, the bolt holding the thing that times it came out and stripped the end of the bolt and hopfully not the shaft.

        Check the ballast resistor. It is the silver metallic device that is attached to the left side of the frame, under the tank, and above the valve cover. It should have two red/white wires attached. The wire feeding the resistor should have 12v, and the other one will have about 8-9 v. if it is good. If there is no voltage coming out, then the resistor is bad. The power must pass through it when the starter is released. If not. the coils will not any power to them, except while cranking.

          AWSOME job guys, that was it, stupid plug was diconnected, thanx so much. Three hours of kicking the damn thing and its finally running hahaha!
