  • clearcoat repair

My 82 xj has a quarter size spot on a fork tube that is shallow scratched like something rubbed on it. I really don't want to strip and polish because the rest of the bike is near perfect stock. Can I spot repair?

    Hey Gary,

The clearcoat that was used some 25 years ago on your XJ is a mystery to me? I don't know if it was an enamel, a laquer, or what??

There was a recent post in the product review forum about a rattle can clearcoat designed NOT to yellow, etc, but don't know how it will behave over the old clearcoat?? All you can do is try, and if it runs, bubbles, etc., THEN you can just strip it all off!

      Clear coat

Hey gary i beleive they used an enamel based clear coat back then would be hrad to try and just do a spot blend on it it would most likely lift the old stuff its a PITA but its alot easier to use some elbow grease and remove it all.
