    You do not have to take off the valve cover/cyl. head/cyls if you want to take off the bottom part of the engine (oil pan, all the bottom half of the engine block).
    Just side covers, one plate at the gear shifter assy. (oil line is in there for lubricating gearbox bearings), the cover on the top where oil fume line comes out (a bolt in there) and all the bottom bolts and upper on the rear/left side of the engine.

    That is if you don't want to pull the crank... it stays on the upper half.

    Hey Strom,

    Heard of that as an approach, but never attempted myself. Have rebuilt the old engine a few few times - for gears, bottom end bearings and finally my stupidity (long story...but I deserved it!).

    Good luck with the work - do you think it'll be a runner this spring / summer?
