  • 850 final drive questions

    I have just received a 850F/D that I purchased on ebay. Is there anything specific I should be looking for (other than changing the gear oil and general cleanup). Perhaps there are things about the 850 final drive conversion that differ from the 750 mod. Any input would be helpful as soon I plan on installing this unit. Thanks a bunch Guys
    2-79 XS1100 SF
    2-78 XS1100 E Best bike Ever
    80 XS 1100 SG Big bore kit but not fully running yet.
    Couple of more parts bikes of which 2 more will live!

    The 850 and 750 final drives are the same.

      Thanks Randy. I thought I read in one of the links or posts that there were differences in bearing preload or something to that effect. I have read so many posts on this site I thought I would double check before I made a mistake. I am so looking forward to doing this conversion. I have always thought these bikes needed a sixth gear.

        Hey Rasputin. I just finished my 850 conversion last night. It was so easy. The hardest part was aligning the driveshaft back into the U-joint and getting the rubber boot back on. I took it for a spin last about an hour after I finished. {I couldn't wait any longer) The difference is incredible! There is anopther gear, it seems. You will NOT be disappointed!!
