I bought mine from georgefix on ebay. They worked out great. I think the price was 72 bucks total for four kits. It would probably be cheaper to just buy what you need to replace though. Usually, all that you need to replace is the float needles. You can buy those seperately from MikesXS.Tim Ripley - Gaithersburg, MD

What XSPastor said.
The main things that need changing on our carbs are the bowl gasket and the needle and seats. Aside from that the other parts in kits like the J&L kits are mostly jets, needles, screws and such. They may not even work right in your machine. I know the pilot jets in some of the K&L kits are the wrong ones and (from experience) I chased that problem around for over a month before I found out what it was. On top of that, if all you really need is the bowl gasket, make them. All it takes is an Exacto knife, a scissors and some gasket material.Mike Giroir

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Thanks for the info,
Yea I actually have good gaskets left from when I went through my the carbs on my bike a couple months ago.I'm working on the carbs off my buddy's bike right now.I also have my old needles and seats, which look good(I went through my carbs because my bike sat since 1983,but whoever stored it had drained the gas first and they were in great shape inside),I just replaced them because I had new ones in the kit I bought. So I'll use them in these carbs. That said ,I cant remember where I got the last kit .
The bike I'm working on now needs the o-rings for the seats
and the o-rings for the idle air screws. Also one of the main jets was sitting in the bottom of the bowl, and it is broke.I managed to get the threaded piece out with an easy-out.Also one of one of the other mains broke just screwing it out.The PO must have thought the jets held the whole bike together as he had to have over torqued them.I have never seen this happen before.
You wouldn't believe how much crap was in the bowls and seats. And this thing ran like that. Not well mind you,but it ran.80 SG XS1100

I'll second the georgefix kits on e-bay. I got them and they worked well for me. He even included a set of 140 mains that I requested for no extra cost. His are the K&L kits but they were the right ones for my 79. Took about 3 days to get to me and I no longer have to wonder if my jets are clean enough or if the PO put wires/drills through them.1979 xs1100 Special -

I like the Z1 carb kit - they are the most complete I have seen. $20.16 for the '80 special.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Wow,
That z1 kit looks like the best deal.I saved a shortcut to it.I'm sure I'll need it sometime(maybe get another bike?)haha.
Well on the carbs I'm working on I had enough good parts from the other carbs I rebuilt except, I needed O-rings for seats and pilot air screws.I also needed main jets because someone put 110's in all 4 carbs and then evidently over torqued them because one was already broken (sitting in bottom of bowl) and two others broke on removal. So I got the threads out with an easyout.
I have three carbs back together and I'm working on the fourth. This one has a pilot screw messed up.I don't know if they drilled into the top of the screw when they were removing the plugs out or what, but the screwdriver slot is beyond repair.I have a friend with a mill(it helps I'm a machinist). So I'm going over to use it this afternoon to drill the scew out.I'll try to find a left handed drill bit.Either way it shouldn't be too tough. Then I should be able to finish the last carb.
Sometimes it seems it would be nice if people would leave stuff alone if they don't know what they are doing, but then I wouldn't get these smokin deals and have the fun and self satisfaction of making something run.
I love this site it's a great place to get info and I appreciate all the help. And it's also fun to see other new owners take the bull by the horns and learn how to work on their own bikes. And the Guru's and administrators make it a place people feel comfortable to come and ask questions without making you feel stupid.Thats cool.80 SG XS1100

Tarzan - is your SG stock or does it have aftermarket parts on it - specifically exhaust or intake mods? I ask because these will affect the jetting requirements.

"Not to rain on anyone's parade..."
Not that it matters, but....
All the carb parts you're getting from Z1... are the same parts that K&L distributes.
For carburator repair kits,('79F) the K&L part# is 18-2581.
The Z1 part# is KL18-2581.
Note the "KL' prefix.
K&L is a "dealer only" distributor.
Z1 buys from K&L and then sells to you.
Nothing wrong with that.
Really good price for float needles, though!"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)

My SG is completely stock. The SG I'm working on is my friends and it has the stock airbox on it with it looks like a dirty K&N filter(I'll have to clean & reoil it).It also has a 4-2 exhaust that is aftermarket with big mufflers.I bought 2ea. 110 jets and 2ea. 120 jets which should be stock for this bike. Then once I install them and get the carbs back on and get it running decent,I will check to see if it needs bigger jets.
Prom ,I have nothing against any supplier.I check my parts before I install them and I know parts sometimes are used for several applications .That is why it is up to the customer to check
first.Sometimes it works sometimes you get the wrong parts (with any supplier).Sometimes it is hard to tell when you order.I personally just want good parts at a fair price and I want it shipped as soon as possible.I also have to take into account that every business at one time or another puts out a bad product or has a lapse in good service. It happens ,that definitely doesnt really mean thats the norm.Long story short, I believe fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.That said I will use K&L,Z1 or any one else who can deliver the product with the least inconvenience to me.
Happy riding l80 SG XS1100
