This motor I have in is having tranny problems. a while back while riding it, the circlip came out of the shift drum and let it get cocked offline and wouldn't shift. I fixed the circlip and re-installed it. This is something that I have to split the cases to get to. So then last weekend, a bolt backs out under the clutch basket that I have never touched before. Luckily just pulling the clutch basket and John having the extra part I needed fixed it.
Now tonight I was synching the carbs with it on the center stand. I had it close so I revved it a little bit and it went CLUNK and went into 2nd gear. Got it back to neutral, revved a bit and CLUNK again into 2nd. I rode it and it shifted fine through all the gears, but there is some noise sometimes coming from the guts of it.
All I can think of is that the circlip on the shift drum came off again. That's all I can think of as to why the shift forks could move sideways to let it drop into gear. I'll pull the shifter sidecover off tomorrow to see if I can see anything moving funky. This thing is the most undependable, mechanically unsound POS bike I have ever owned. It has always got something wrong with it. In almost 3 years, I have never been able to ride it more than a month or two without something major going wrong. It is broke down WAY more than it's ever been rideable. I have put 17k miles on the speedo in the time I have owned it, but this is on about 4 or 5 different motor set ups, and untold motor removal/installs/case splittings.
I am just flat sick and tired of it and thinking about getting rid of it. I am going to tear it apart one more time. I am going to chit can everything from the crank back and use the stuff from this last motor. The crank was crap, but at least the tranny didn't have problems. If this doesn't work for a long while after this... there is going to be lots of parts and stuff on Ebay to buy.
