Hope that didn't get me in trouble...

No... but it does bring into question your choice of partners???

from a woman's point of view turning wrenches CAN be more satisfying than sex, depending on the wrench
And your choice of wrenches! You wouldn't want to sell one of your old ones, would you?

Mine is setting there with bent valves as I write this. I have another head thanks to Ted from Ottawa. I am gonna do the clutch while I have it apart. I am hoping that it just needs springs but I won't know till I tear it down. I hope mine goes together as well as yours did.

          Did the same thing

with a GS1100 Suzuki. Seems like all the inline fours of this era are hauntingly similar. enemy spy on deck!lol.

            Just a note...

The gasket set from Parts & More does not have the copper washers (4) used for the oil feed tube. I did not want to use re-use the old ones, had some of the right inside diameter but smaller OD, they work fine. If you go with the P & M kit, get some of the copper washers before you start reassembly. Yamaha part number is 90430-10027-00.

Olebiker - I did my clutch about a month ago. I followed TC's excellent instructions and the job was a breeze. If I was you I would have the steels and plates ready to go. While you have it apart you really should at least check to make sure the plates are still in spec. If you go that far, putting new ones in is like no extra work at all. You can get the friction plates at Partsnmore for $5 a pop - 8 required. Steels are like $8.80 ea at Bikebandit, but you might not have to replace all 7.

Jerry - I tried to reuse the crush washers when I did mine, and had oil leaking all over the place. Finally broke down and spent the $2 for new crush washers. Other than that the partsnmore gasket set is pretty complete, no? I don't think you can beat it for $77.

                Hey Jerry,

Most auto parts stores have those crush washers. They still use them in a lot of brake applications. I did the same thing as you and bought some that were slightly smaller outside diameter. After they get crushed.... they will get squished out and be like your others. Most of the time you can re-use them, but they are cheap to go back new with.

                dbeardslee,

I agree with you about the PNM gasket set... very happy with the quality. As far as the steel clutch plates, even if they get slightly out of spec, many of us just throw and extra used one in the middle somewhere to tighten everything up. If anyone ever needs any, I have a couple dozen probably.
