  • Carburators Yet Again!

I finally got the carbs working right, sort of. I keep having occasional overflows for no apparent reason. If I am understanding the gist of things, the rubber tipped needles and the plastic floats for the XS650 carbs will work in the XS11 carbs. Will the clips get in the way? The parts that I am talking about are the ones from MikesXS. If so, I am going to order some. By the way,I appreciate the help and the Tech tips everyone supplies.Every time I look on XS11 page I learn something new. The pre sychronizing tip was incredibly helpful. I have some brake problems to take care of, but I found the answer to that issue in another thread.

      Carbs Yet Again!

Thanks for the encouragment! I spent two evenings till10 PM and from about 10:30 this morning till 9 PM fiddling with the darned things. Last night I got in a hurry and slapped the carbs on without checking the floats. Mr Murphy put his $.02 in and I watched a large puddle of $4 gas collect on my garage floor. For some strange reason that really ticked me of. I KNOW better. The problem now is an occasion overflow. I spent all day switching the parts over to my other set of carb bodies( the ones with the formally stuck idle-mix screw tips in them). Got everything back together and it wouldn't start. Looked at the plug wires and realized, yes I really am that stupid, they were on the WRONG PLUGS!! Got that straighten out and it fired right up, to 5000 RPM's! Cranked the adjustment srew down and it purred right along. When I was backing it out of the garage I found the rear brake was dragging. I started looking at that and I started smelling gas. I shut off the fuel valves, cranked the throttle wide open and cleared the flood. SO, if I can use the rubber tipped float valves and the plastic floats I will. If this was any more fun I would have to pay to do it. The nice thing was SWMBO mowed and weed-whacked the yard so I could stay with it all day. I owe her BIGTIME. (Believe me, she won't forget it)

        Nice going, Tim!"

I have a lot of questions... and might be able to provide answers... yet I can't send you PM's or e mails in order to ask them.
You need to go into your personal data area and at least allow PM's to get through.

          debts owed to SWMBO.....

hey there Nate Dogg....hear ya there my man.....SWMBO has had quite a lot of patience with me and the "rebel devil".....she has even gone as far as bringing dinner out to the "mancave" just 2 make sure i ate.....many hours with her understanding that "it's almost there" and sitting alone inside the house watching CSI reruns.....but you must understand that this is my only ride 2 work at the moment and she has to roll every day....btw, how did ya get her to do the lawn and the weed-whipping.....i had to spend 1-1/2 hours in a downpour cooking bobs on the grill just for mothers day and i know i still owe her big time....ross

            Debts owed

First thing, changed my profile so I can get PM's. Sorry, I'm a newbie and it shows. As far as SWMBO goes, she voluntered. All I had to do was go out and restart the mower when she emptied the bag of clippings, that is until she watched me do it a few times. Also had to fire up the chainsaw and remove a mulberry tree that had attacked her ( her words not mine). That was actually good therapy after I lost the d**n broken of piece of float post I had intended to JB weld back in place. First time she ever used the weed-whacker also, thought that was fun.???? To tell ya the truth, I'll be glad to get back to work, this layoff stuff sucks. Then I' ll have my lathes and mills again. THEN I can try out a couple ideas. I saw the spin on oil filter mod. That looks pretty doable. Have to look at the headers to see if they will be in the way.

              Debts Owed

I just realized it's after midnite. SWMBO wants me to go to church tomorrow. Guess that's part of the payback. Hopefully I can get after the brakes tomorrow nite.
