  • Slow working speedo

I just replaced the Speedo cable on my 79 XS11SF, Speedo works but the needle comes up very slow......... I mean SLOW. In 5th gear at 3500 rpm I can run for 2 or 3 miles before the speedo catches up to the speed I am running. The needle also falls to zero just as slow........... Any ideas?????????

Maybe try lubing the spedo with some light oil (3in1).

As DiverRay said in a previous post

The speedo should be pulled, turned upside down, and have one drop of LIGHT OIL, such as 3in1, put into the brass bushing. That should help. If you want to be sure, clean with brakeclean or some other cleaner that leaves no residue, and then use 2 drops of oil on the bushing. DO NOT USE WD40 ON ANY PART of the speedo assembly
was it working good before you replaced the cable?

    Did you lube the cable?

If that doesn't do it you always open it up and lightly lube the gears.
