  • Carb synch - alternate fuel tank

Doing my first carb synch and I was going to use an alternate fuel tank. (regular tank off to be painted). I'm guessing I will have to install a "T" fitting on the line from the alternate tank and run it to each of the fuel lines that would normally connect to the petcocks? Is that right?

Money can't buy happiness, but it can get you an XS11 and that's a start.

Yes, you will have to run a "T" if you only have one fuel petcock on the tank. DO NOT FORGET TO RUN A FAN to keep the motor cool while you sync the carbs!! You can over heat the engine in five minutes!!

I went to a lawnmower wrecking yard and got a tiny tank for an aux. tank.
I use a T to the 2 carb hoses. I bungee it to the frame where the regular tank goes.
      Test rides look funny.

I am lazy. I have a few feet of line that fits snugly over my gas can vent. That goes to a T. I set the gas can on the luggage rack. Just tilt it over and you can use all the gas you want. No pouring or messing around.

I haven't used an auxiliary tank for syncing since I replaced my fuel lines and cris-crossed them so the right petcock feeds the left carbs, etc. I left the lines long enough so I can prop up the rear of the tank on a 2" block of wood. With the sync tool connected to the manifold nipples, I put the petcocks on prime for fuel flow.

            YMMV..

I too just use the wood block and a small stubby screw driver.

Since I am plumbed sort of straight in from my petcocks I turn the tank around and put it where the seat was. Opens up the whole top of the motor for easy access.
