After receiving my replacement speedo hub gear from Andreas (thanks again buddy!) I found during my tear down that previously I had put the old gear on top of the tabs that slot into the gear and then bolted it all together effectively squishing the little buggers down to even. pulled the little ring gasket out then the tab ring and bent it back into shape. went with the newer one since it was greased up so nice and voila! Speedo working now. plus I'd already put on a new cable so I should be good for another 30 yrs.
however when putting it back together i have the rotors too close to one side of the slot and get rubbing at certain speeds/lean angles. will be straightening that out tonight and hitting up a Pie Run to Hico TX in the morning. 11 AM at the Koffee Kup if anyone's interested. Two-wheeled texans (twtex.com) are putting it on but anyone is invited. Seriously these guys will recruit bikes at gas stations on the way!
And boy, putting on the miles is easy when you're 2 hrs from everything!
