  • Carb sync

Okay guys it's alive .....it's alive she runs!! I got her to run and did the pre sync using the twist tie from another member which worked out just great. But now i hooked up a set of vacuum gauges to get the carbs right perfect, but the all the needles on all 4 gauges flutter all over the place, mind you I don't have stock cams anymore with a higher lift and longer duration, maybe that is why the needle is all over the place. I have them hooked up to the right ports on the intake boots. Any tips here please...

You need to use restrictors in the lines.
Can't just hook up straight hose between ports and gauges or they will bounce like crazy.
Try to get some small diameter plastic that will fit in the vacuum hoses to act like orifices, to restrict the flow.
In other words, cut the vacuum lines 3-4 inches from the carb mounts and put in short lengths of small tubing to splice them back together. May have to melt the restrictor tubing to get it small enough.
Just needs a tiny orifice to work properly.
Other alternative is aquarium tubing air valves.

Oh okay.......I see...the kit has these like "T" fittings that I put in between the gauge and engine. It has a adjusting knob to restrict the vacuum flow. So I could quite down the movement of the needle large. So now I have no idea what it should be reading but I got all 4 carbs pretty much in the white zone. I adjusted the knob to give me about a 1/8" of free flutter. So is that okay or no.??

The actual reading on the gauge is irrelevant. Just need to adjust so they are reading the same. Yes and just a little bit of flutter on the needles is correct. Just make sure that you're not restricting too much. i.e. cutting off the supply completely.

        Have fun

Okay thanks John...I just learned something new, so I guess they are in sync then.

          Cheers.
