    Hey Renegade,

What you want to do is wire your switch to the headlight RELAY, instead of relying on the charging circuit to latch the relay which requires the engine running, you run a hot line to the switch that would go to the RELAY, and replace the WHITE alt/diode wire, so that WHEN you throw the switch, it will latch the relay and turn the headlight on.

HOWEVER, I'm not sure why you want to turn the headlight on before the engine is running?? And once the relay is latched, throwing your switch OFF won't turn off the headlight as long as the engine us running. Only turning off the bike and key switch will UN-latch the Relay to turn off the light!

I have an off and on switch on mine; have had for about ten years. Before that, if you would try to start it, and the engine caught and died, the headlite would come on and stay on, when you went to hit starter button again, unless you turned switch "off, and then back on" . I don't want the headlite to come on at all, unless it's going to start and I can keep it going. How many times have I winced when I see someone try to start a car with the headlites on. Why do it with a motorcycle?

Of course I know why it comes that way from the factory; but as long as I can remember to flip the light on before I head out, I'm not breakin' the law.

Well, hello TC, long time no see

See the thing is, I had originally planned to change from this:

        to this:

using this to turn on the AUX lights,

but now I have eliminated the original headlight and bucket, in favor of of the dual 55w lights,

Yes I'm gonna change to LED's, but still wanted to switch the lights of and on.....probably not the best option, no headlights on while driving, but here in Mi we have the option on older bikes...ones that had the oprion on them when new

          Hey again,

What I would suggest is to replace the Bikes Headlight Relay with a different one that would not remain latched after the power for the switching side is OFF!!! That way you could use the handlebar switch to throw the relay to power the headlights, and would be able to turn it OFF once it's running!!
