Tonight I removed the top of the triple tree, loosened the double nuts, and dropped the forks down to inspect the bearings. The nuts were way to tight. Took me a while to get them loose.

The lower bearing and race were in great shape to my surprise. I cleaned them up a bit. Didn't need a lot and packed in as much grease as possible.

The top bearing was all gummed up with dirt, grease, and a bit of rust. I soaked the bearing in my container of Carb cleaner for about 40 minutes. It cleaned up real good. Think my carb cleaner is toast though.

Packed the bearing in grease and cleaned up the race very good. I used carb cleaner on a corner of a rag to clean up the race of the upper bearing. Worked very well.

With the race and bearing now greased up I installed the upper bearing and put everything back together. Checked and double check everything.

Now with just a nudge, the wheel goes right or left. What an improvement.

Took a test drive. I could go idle at 5 MPH and keep a straight line. Take off in a straight line. No more fighting the steering.

Parked bike and checked and rechecked everything and I am good to go.

    Thanks again everyone!!!
