  • Air forks

I did some searching before posting this but on my 1980 SG, my left shock leaks the air out after just a short time. The right holds up fine but when riding like this, it feels like my bike wants to wander and when stopping it wants to lean a bit left. I took some soapy water and pumped up the shock and sprayed the solution all over looking for a leak but found no bubbles. I did read about the progressive shocks and all so might go that way, but in the mean time, would I get a better ride by leaving the air out of both shocks, and with no air, will it damage any internal parts in the good shock?

    pressure

You can run it without air, no problem. Might feel a bit mushy though. Best bet is to convert it to the Progressive spring no air setup. If you fix the air system, get genuine Yamaha seal. IIRC, it has an extra lip to hold in your air pressure better. If your fork tubes have a few pits, better off with the airless setup. HTH.
