hello, i am just fixing my bike now to certify. i have the 82 maxim. the battery keeps dieing. i read somewhere in her the engine has to be running at 2500 rpm to charge the battery. is this why mine may be dieing as i am just idling as i am fixing it and starting and stopping the bike. it is not getting to 2500 rpm

That could be it, or also that your brushes on your ALT are worn down!? Yamaha switched to brushed ALT with the XJ vs. the brushless of the XS11's to add a few more amps! But you should be seeing about 12 to 12.5 volts when idling, but check it out with a voltmeter at idle and 2500 rpm. IF it stays at 12 volts, then you need to diagnose your charging system a bit further!
