  • xj 1100j maxim

    I have a 1983 yamaha xj 1100j maxim(canada)
is there any difference for the side covers from a xj 1100k
I remember earlier that some one had said the only difference
was that when it was sold in Canada the folloing year they changed the K to a "j"
I have a chance to get some side covers.
    My question is.Will they fit?
    any one know?

Yeah, they'll fit. The Maxim was sold in Canada for two more years than it was in the US. Nothing was changed at all from what I understand.

      Ditto

Same as far as I know . Only model that i'm unsure is the fabled Midnight Maxim as I've never spied one . I imagine they would fit even if they looked different .

My understanding is that the only 2 differences are the "K" designation for Canada, and the speedometer that reads KPH instead of MPH. Otherwise all years of the XJ 1100 are the same and all parts will interchange.

The bike came in two colors, New Yamaha Black and Ruby Red, so a few of the cosmetic parts, like the side covers, are available in both colors.

          XJ1100ML

There is also a XJ1100ML model which is the Midnight . 82 serial numbers start with 10M . All serial numbers after 82 start with 11G with a different series of numbers for each year and model .
Conclusion - the Midnight was made in 82 with the serial number 11G and they were so happy they just kept on turning them out .
SInce the Midnight was only a cosmetic package they had enough bikes for a couple more years for the standard models and another Midnight model in 84
