Riding along, safe and secure in my bubble (Full Face Helmet) but I start to notice that the bike is getting loader and the low end power is falling off. Pulled over to check things out and I discover that the LH exhaust collector and the muffler are no longer the same part. Cracked just forward of the factory wield. No evidence of rust thru just broken. Has anyone else had this happen and has anyone had success in wielding the parts back together. I guess I should count my blessings as the bolts for the heat shroud all came out just fine. Still can't really figure out what would cause this to fail suddenly like it did except maybe 25 odd years of thermal cycles and metal fatigue. So if anyone has a 3H314711 around they do not need send me a PM. Damn just when the weather was perfect!

Same thing happened on my brothers bike. Same side of the exhaust and in the same spot. Wonder what cause's it? Anyway I welded it back and it lasted for about 13 years. When I was doing the tranny fix for him a year ago I noticed it was breaking again. This time it's after the part I had welded so many years ago. So I guess I'll wait to see how long it last's this time.

You should be able to weld it back together.
    If you do Good Luck!

Put it all back on bike so it is correct position, spot weld in two or three places. Take it all back off and weld it up. Get a can of high-temp aluminum spray from NAPA and paint that area.............never be noticed and that particular paint won't dis-color. After going off a curb(best I can remember) some 25 yrs. ago, two-up and fully loaded, my right side fractured bout in the same place. Back then, welded it at work using a torch and rod(didn't have access to a wire-feed then), still together just fine and can't be seen unless you stand on your head under bike.
