    dumping fuel through airbox

I took the tank off of the bike a week ago to paint it. When i put it back on today, it dumps fuel through the airbox. Petcocks seem to be in working order. I have the hoses connected to the right spots, but I cant figure why it is dumping fuel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

The bike is an 80 xs 1100 special

Mine does it often~~even with inline filters. You've probably got a bit of grit between float needle(s) and float needle seat(s). Get a piece of wood, or wooden dowel an inch or so in diameter~~6 inches or longer. And a hammer. Motorcycle uprite on centerstand.
Petcocks on; fuel leaking. Put one end of dowel against the top of float chamber and where the carb body join~~tap it lightly with the hammer. Or a little "more" than lightly. I've got individual pod filters, so I can tell which carb is drizzlin'. Sometimes you can get it right, on the side stand; better on centerstand.

If it leaks fuel through the airbox, you have two problems. You have leaking petcocks, plus you have leaking float valves. If either one of these works properly, you will not have a leak. If you have any leak, both are in trouble.

thanks for the reply, after searching I found a lot about both problems. Just need time to go faster so the parts get here quicker.
